Middle name dropped during naturalisation process

Post by trupti.uk » Sun Aug 11, 2013 12:13 pm

Hi,I wonder if anyone had this problem, I applied for OCI and my application is rejected due to name mis match on Indian and British passport.Basically, I dropped my middle name while naturalisation process, so my British passport only shows my first and last name while my cancelled Indian passport has First,Middle and last name. Can someone who had the same issue please let me know what extra documents to submit? Any help will be appreciated.

You have entered yourself in devils hell now. I am not very much worried about the British side of things but when it comes to Indian side of things.. you have to go round and round to find your way. The first thing you have to do is sort your Naturalisation certificate, get your British passport sorted and then reapply...that is the only sort I can see to make things easier for you.

"Devils Hell" really? Anyways, I got an affidavit made for name mismatch and will apply for OCI next week. Lets see if they'll accept my application.

Would you let me know if the affidavit worked as my son in law has the same problem, his first name is missing off his British birth certificate.

Same issue here. My parents dropped there middle name now my application wasnt accepted. Common sense out of the window.

They said i need a name change deed. I looked around and you can create these for free. Also checked with courts, there is no legal requirement to go via high courts or solicitors.

Question is will HCI Birmingham accept this?

They seem to make a fuss on the smallest of things. I have all my parents previous passports. They are clearly them! Just the middle names dropped.

Frustrated, another day wasted.

Hello Guys,

I still haven't heard anything from HCI yet, it's not even been acknowledge so I have no idea whether they will accept my application. I guess it's just a waiting game now. It's very frustrating!

If it helps, below is the format of Affidavit which I got it signed by a solicitor for £10
Affidavit
To High Commission of India,
I, First name Last name gained British Citizenship through Naturalisation on 5th June 2013. My Middle name has been dropped during the process of Naturalisation by mistake, hence my British Passport shows my name as First name Last name but my cancelled Indian passport shows my name as First Middle Last Name. Because of the above reason I am submitting an affidavit saying that, indeed, all the names below are for the same person. I have not officially changed my name. Please accept this affidavit.

(1) Cancelled Indian Passport has name : First name Middle name Last name
(2) Naturalisation Certificate has name : First name Last name
(3) British Passport has name : First name Last name

I, First name Last name do solemnly and sincerely declare that foregoing particulars stated in this declaration are true and I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true.
Declared at :
Date : (Signature of the applicant)

Hi Trupti,

Thank you for your advice with the Afidavit. I used this with my parents application and it worked a treat.

How to drop Middle name during naturalisation process

Post by alex18 » Tue Apr 22, 2014 12:39 pm

Hi Trupti,

Thanks a lot for your response.

Can you also advise the process to remove the middle name during naturalisation?

Do i just need to submit the application without the middle name with clarification in section 15 or do i need to provide additional information?

Any advise will be very helpful.

Kind Regards,

Alex
