Going to India which visa to apply

Post by ric1982 » Tue Sep 10, 2013 5:22 am

Hi,

Applicant's Background:
Former Indian Citizen (Now British Citizen)
Indian Passport Surrendered at Birmingham UK
Applying from Birmingham UK
Want to go for six months and apply OCI from India after landed.

There are two visa categories that I think we can apply but which one?

Tourist Visa
X Visa

Does anyone knows timeline for both of these at the moment?

Thanks,

Hi,
I was exactly in the same position. I applied for tourist visa for 6 months.
Have already applied for OCI from Birmingham.
Applied for visa at Birmingham and took just 1 day for getting it back . Was amazed with the quick service.

Many thanks for the quick reply, When did you applied (just to get idea about current timelines.) I heard somewhere that x visa's are taking three weeks and thought is this true for tourist visa as well?

Also on the application form I have following queries would be grateful if you can reply....

(1)
"Any other valid Passport/Identity Certificate(IC)/Dual Nationality held "
Do we have to state the cancelled Indian passport details. As its asking for "valid" passport...
We are going to put the surrender certificate with the application form.

(2)
Also what about countries visited ? We just got our BC and we were born in India. Does it count as visited? Or just put No in that.

(3)
We have asked for tourist visa multiple entry for six months , is that ok?

(4)
When is your visa start and end date? Is it from the date of the application or from the time vfs send the application to IHC? the question is for booking outward and inward ticket dates.

Many thanks again for taking time to reply... seems like not many people have answer to these questions and VFS if next to useless for customer enquiery.

1. Your indian passport is not valid now. So say NO.
2.if not visited any other countries , say NO. Going to India on indian passport is not counted.
3.6 months multiple entry is ok .
4. Your start date is the date when the visa is granted . I applied on 22 July and got processed on 23 rd July. My start of visa date is 23rd July .

Hi

My suggestion is apply for long term 5 year visa since you are a former Indian citizen. not much documentation and got the visa in 2 days time. Fee doesn't vary much either.

5 year long term visa saves a lot of hassles particularly when you have an urgent trip for a few days

Regards
