Well, my application got rejected for sending the wrong fee even though I sent a £38 postal order and that's exactly the amount on the form. I have a receipt for the postal order, which they kept (ie. stole) but I don't think that proves I sent it to them.

Am I seriously going to have to pay another £38 for the form, £19 for biometric enrolment (why they let my application progress to that stage when my fee was apparently wrong is beyond me) and £5 for passport sized photos (that they also didn't return)?

I'm going to phone them later; at the moment I'm too angry and would probably end up shouting at them which won't get me anywhere.
Update: It wasn't about fees (the letter confused me by mentioning them) but about the version of the application form. I phoned and they said that the case worker probably wrongly rejected my application because they saw it was the old version of the form and by the time they had got around to processing it it had been over two weeks since the new one had come out. Obviously they hadn't seen that the HO received my application two days before the new form came out (they even stamped it).

So I've sent the whole thing back to the case worker who rejected it explaining the situation and hopefully I won't have to restart my application for a mistake that wasn't mine. I just hope that bureaucracy doesn't prevent them doing the right thing.

I'll update when something else inevitably goes wrong...

BRP replacement card form query

Post by amit0277 » Thu Sep 19, 2013 4:21 pm

There is a spelling mistake for the place of birth on BRP card. I am filing the replacement form and I am confused with one of the question.

D4: question ask about the finger prints and the date of application. Is this the date at which finger prints were given during the last BRP process?

Please help!!!

When filling out the application, I put in the date fingerprints were submitted because it's the only record I had regarding previous applications -- I had calendar events from years past for enrolling biometrics, but I had not noted anywhere the date that I actually submitted my application. As my BRP RC has been accepted (as of yesterday!!), I'm assuming this answer was satisfactory for the Home Office.

You know if you've just received your BRP (within the last 10 working days), and noticed a spelling mistake -- you're supposed to e-mail BRPError@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk providing your full name, date of birth, nationality, case reference number, contact telephone number, and exact details of what is wrong with the BRP. If it has been more than 10 working days since your BRP was issued and you just noticed the mistake, then maybe the BRP RC is the correct form for you. Nevertheless, if you can get away with emailing the address above and having the issue fixed that way -- I imagine that would be a whole lot faster/cheaper of a process than submitting the BRP RC. As you can see from this forum, best case scenario for the BRP RC is 4 weeks without your documents and 60 pounds paid. Worst case scenario can be much, much longer. I'm at 7 weeks and have just received my documents today... But am still waiting on the new BRP itself! Good luck, amit0277!

Thanks Karen. I am well beyond the 10 day limit. I didn't notice it earlier and not I have to pay for the mistakes done by the UKBA incompetent staff.

Place of birth is misspelled on my son's BRP card also.

I need help with Section 6 of BRP replacement form.

What document can we submit for proof of identity for a dependent who is just 2 years old?

Updated Timeline

Post by karen8023 » Fri Sep 20, 2013 8:52 am

I sent in my BRP RC for a change in surname due to marriage. My timeline thus far:

Mailed BRP RC via recorded post: 10/08/2013
BRP RC delivered to Home office: 12/08/2013
Fees cleared: 14/08/2013
Acknowledgement letter dated 13/08/2013 received on 16/08/2013

31/08/2013 Mailed via first class post letters to the UKBA Croydon office + the address from the acknowledgement letter urging them to check on my application as I had not received a biometric enrolment letter within 15 working days of mailing my application [which is the promised timeline as quoted in the instructions for the BRP RC application].

Miraculously, on 5/09/2013, I received my biometric enrolment letter dated 2/09/2013
Biometrics enrolled 5/09/2013
Acceptance letter + documents received 19/09/2013, letter dated 18/09/2013
BRP received 20/09/2013

Hi Karen,

Congratulation on the successful BRP RC process.

Can I ask you a question? What proof of identity document did you submit along with your application?

Many thanks for your help.

Regards
Amit

Thank you everyone for the information. It looks like things are faster these days!
My wife has applied for a new BRP with change in name after marriage.
Application sent on 04th Oct. I will keep you posted on the next timelines.

Does anyone think, there is a difference in processing time because of the reason of application (change in name / lost BRP etc) ?

We both need the visa by 20th November as we have travel arrangements.

Cheers!
VV

You asked if we think the reason for the BRP RC application makes any difference? I don't think it does make a difference.

It seems to me that it's all down to luck -- Occasionally these applications end up lost in the system for a bit or perhaps you get a lazy caseworker and it takes longer than it should.

At best, you can hope to have your travel documents back within ~ 4 weeks. At worst, you may have to cancel your trip in November. My advice is that if either your acknowledgement or BRP enrolment letters don't come within 10 working days of submitting your application, contact the home office to figure out the hold up!

Thank you Karen8023, I will try to followup with the office if I do not get the reply with 10-15 days.

Hope we get lucky! Cancelling the plan in November would be heart-breaking :(

Cheers!

BRP card lost in Ukraine

Application date 05/11/2013 at UK Visa Centre in Kiev
Payment and biometrics taken the same day

After 2 weeks it is under assessment at UKBA

Does anyone know ways to speed up the process? Email or phone UKBA?

My original trip to Ukraine was for 5 days only and now I'm trapped for another 2 weeks so far... Need to comeback to my kids and work in the UK.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you

I'm quite concerned about these timelines for getting a name change on the BRP.

In fact my husband is now saying I shouldn't bother to change the name, if it means I have to send my passport to UKBA for 6-8 weeks.

It seems that the people who lost their BRP have faster service than the name change.

Since most people who change their name are women, if that is the case perhaps it should be put to UKBA that their practice is discriminatory.

Did you apply for a name change, or just for a replacement of a lost card?

Today I sent my BRP(RC) application because my BRP is damaged.

I included my BRP but not my passport because I'm applying for a like-for-like replacement without any changes of personal details. That's what I assumed from the Section 3 of the form where it says passport might not be required.

Can someone confirm that this is ok, that I did not send my passport as well?

I am transferring my paper visa into BRP card, so I think there shouldn't be a long process involved as the decision to grant Permanent Residence was made back in 2011.

I started my BRP application back in mid Nov 13. After 7-10 days got a letter confirming the receipt of my app and asking to be patient basically. Till the end of 2013 there was nothing else heard from them. On 15th of Jan 2014, I got a Reminder letter dated 12/1/14 (assume first letter simply got lost in the post during busy December :? ) requesting to submit my biometrics at the nearest Post Office. Did that the next day.

January 31/1/14 - nothing yet. Called HO to find out more, the lady confirmed it is still under consideration.

Hoping to receive it soon.
