Right of Abode and British Passport application

I am not sure if this question has been answered before, but could someone please clarify?
If a child has Certificate of Entitlement to Right of Abode in the passport (Indian passport), can this be used as proof in lieu of certificate of naturalisation while applying for British passport in UK? Or should a fresh application be made for naturalisation before the passport application can be made?

In case you are wondering, it takes much less time to obtain Certificate of Entitlement in India than a British passport.

That would depend on what basis the CoA was obtained.

When applying for a passport, one needs to prove he is British. If the child was born British (because of one parent), then he has no certificate to show... What he needs to do is to prove his claim for example: parents passport number + birth certificate.

Thanks Jambo. So in effect that means that Right of Abode is not equivalent to proof that you are a British Citizen.
