Congrats!! I too am planning to apply with my father as team member in Pakistan and I have some critical questions to ask you, if I may?

You say you had the money in joint acount - is this account based in Pakistan or is it an offshore account in UK? Also, which bank is it? This will help clarify my concerns.

Also, could you guide me on what were the questions they asked in the interview? How brief was your business plan i.e. did you have future projections and cash-flows etc.?

Thanks a lot and congrats again :)

Did they interview both team members separately or you were interviewed together? Also what do you think is it possible for one team member to answer all questions in case the other team member is housewife and does not have enough business experience?

I have also sent you PM. If you can reply that as well please.

Many Thanks

Both team members were interviewed seperately, mine interview lasted 50 minutes but my sister was interviewed for just 15 minutes. The interviewer told my sister that i have asked all the business related questions to your partner so i am not going to repeat it. All he asked was about my sisters back ground and how she is important to this proposed business.
Will reply to your PM later.

I got PM from some forum members asking me to share the answers to the interview questions i had posted earlier. Although i have replied to their PM i am sharing it over here for benefit of other members. As i am preparing to leave for UK in two weeks there fore might not be able to reply on time.

Here is what i have replied to one of the PM.

"To be honest I can’t remember exactly the answers I gave in the interview, as my answers were spontaneous and genuine. I didn't have time to prepare for the interview due to extra work load in office and when I went for interview I had not slept for 26 hours.
While on the way to embassy I did briefly explained business plan to my sister as I was the one who had prepared the Business plan and I told my sister to be real and give genuine answers even if she faces difficult situation as messing with ECO is not appropriate.
It pays when you act what you really are rather than try to be someone whom you do not really know.

My sister is a graduate and she had worked for a production house as a admin manager, she has this experience of dealing with people so I told them that I am from finance back ground and I can look after finance and operational side but my sister will contribute in administrative side as she has experience of dealing with people.

It all depends on how convincing you are, I told them that franchise business is mostly run by family whether they are husband and wife or brother and sister or two brother etc etc, we want to establish a family business to have effective control over business rather than depending on others.

Below are the most probable replies I have given to the questions you have mentioned,

Q – Why are you investing your life time savings and inheritance in UK?

A – I want to do business but I can’t invest in Pakistan due to its poor law and order situation, political uncertainty and current economic conditions. Cost of doing business is high over here keeping in view hidden cost which has to be paid to run business in Pakistan.

Q- Without prior experience how you intend to run business in UK?

A- I have 15 years management level experience of running others business and have contributed in success of others business now i want to work for myself. With this experience and business education I have all the reasons to believe that I can run a successful business.

Q- Why are you interested in doing business in UK why not any other place?

A- I was working on the idea of doing business for some time but was reluctant due to situation in Pakistan, then I heard about UK entrepreneur Visa in June 2012 and gave some serious thought to this idea of starting business in UK, I took one year to convince myself that I can do business in UK, during this period I did some research on internet and exchanged emails with franchise consultants in UK even talked to some franchisee in London and Manchester just to get the facts how they were doing. It was after that I was convinced I discussed this business proposal with my family and that’s how my sister got interested and we agreed to form a team.

I hope this will help, but my advice to you will be to judge you own situation and come up with your own answers as every person has different circumstances and business ideas."

Thanks

i think both the points have some weight.

For me bottom line is that you have to convince the ECO that your intentions are genuine. Its up to you what you do to convince him.
In 50 minutes of interview he never asked me what will be the wages, and other expenses, he even did not went in to the details of financial numbers and my business plan was also incomplete you know why? because i think i have approached this application as a true businessman interested in profits derived from successful business model called Franchise business of reputable food outlet. In first year of operations i had shown losses and then marginal return, it was a five year based business model and he did asked me that why are you investing when the return is too low. And my reply was that after 5 years i will have a chain of outlets and its capital value will increase if i decide to sell the chain and do some thing else i will get huge capital gain. Those who know business finance will understand there is dividend business model and then there is asset based business model some times also called Capital gain based model.

May be the ECO was not that qualified to understand all this stuff but one thing is sure that the interview was very friendly , casual and even we exchanged jokes in middle of interview. In reply to his questions i shared with him my 15 years career in Finance and my achievements etc etc, to be honest it was great experience. After interview i was expecting that he might give my sister some hard time by asking same questions from her to cross check but he just told her that i am satisfied with all the business related details your brother has given and will not waste time asking same to you so just tell me how you are going to contribute in this business, i was surprised when i saw my sister coming out in just 15 minutes, and i was convinced that i will get the visa.

Anyways it could be anything bottom line is i got the visa ;)

Now the real test starts once i land in UK next month.

They dont want to judge one's ability they want to judge one's intentions.
For them its not relevant whether you make money or not for them the relevant part is that you invest money in their country and create employement.

Some where u had mentioned that u were in UK as student you would probably know how this visa was used to lure cheap labor in UK.

Best of luck
