Passport interview: maybe more difficult than naturalisation

Looking at the Sticky here and the passport questions

For someone who got ILR and was naturalised years ago on ESOL - progressing one level from pre-stage 1 to stage 1 - this passport interview could be quite difficult. It seems over the top, if all they are trying to do is prevent identity theft as the gov.uk site suggests.

If necessary you may be able to ask for an interpreter/use language line.
