Help needed!

Hi there,
Finally got my residence card as a family a spouse of an EU national here in Spain!My hubby is British and self employed. Took about 5 months....My mum would now like to visit me and the family for a month or so. Can she apply for schengen visa on the basis of a family member of an eu national? Does she have to show that she is dependent? Any help would be appreciated. Dont really wanna go the normal schengen visa route ....
