Query on a document for NCS appointment

Post by ITGraduate » Mon Dec 30, 2013 6:50 pm

Dear Seniors/experts,

My wife is applying for naturalization as my spouse. I'm British and we both are living in the UK for the last 10 yrs ( continuously )

My wife has an NCS appointment on the date I have to travel abroad for urgent work. so I wont be able to give my passport to my wife for her appointment at NCS

Is it OK if I can ask my wife to take my naturalisation certificate? would that be accepted instead of my UK passport

I called NCS they said it fine, I called UKBA they too said its fine. When I called them again they both said NO!!

Please advise

Sincerely!!

From 28 October 2013 if you are applying by post for extension of stay, indefinite leave to remain or British citizenship on the following forms, you no longer need to provide an original passport from the British or settled person supporting your application - a photocopy of their passport or travel document can be provided instead.

Applying for extension of stay or indefinite leave to remain

Forms FLR(M), SET(M) and SET(F)

fiancé(e) of a British citizen or settled person;
civil partner or proposed civil partner of a British citizen or settled person;
spouse of a British citizen or settled person;
unmarried partner of a British citizen or settled person;
same sex partner of a British citizen or settled person; or
child or other dependant relative of a British citizen or settled person.
Applying for British citizenship

Forms AN and MN1

spouse of a British citizen;
civil partner of a British citizen;
child of a British citizen parent.
The photocopy must include all pages of the passport, including any blank pages, and we will verify it with other government departments in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. We may request the original document at any time during the application process, and the application will be refused if you do not comply.

You must still submit your own original passport or travel document as part of your application.

cheers

Its not that I'm not believing you, I want to take a print out of the guidance and give it to the NCS registrar who wasnt accepting a certificate.

Many Thanks and a Happy New Year

[quote="trend"]On UKBA's site:

Thanks very much Trend, I was asking if it says anywhere on the UKBA website that I could submit my naturalisation certificate instead of my passport ( for my wifes application )

Technically I can understand your point but its very difficult to explain to the staff at NCS who have very limited knowledge on this

If its not mentioned on the website, its fine- I will take a print out of the page you sent with me

Sincerely !!

Nope sorry, could not find anything in the guidance regarding substitution of a passport for a naturalisation cert. Technically it should be possible for them to look up your passport details from the cert but if in doubt, submit a copy of the passport so that there aren't any delays.
