I was interviewed at Portsmouth Office:

arrived 15 min earlier
was Saturday, very nice lady in the reception
asked me to wait then a gentleman asked me go to section 4 where he started to ask me all the typical questions: your name D.O.B ....ETC
Lasted 15-20 min finally asked to sign the electronic pad

then shake hand and I had the passport on Monday :-)

Good luck

Has anyone noticed that the new passport has changed slightly with photo page looks more like a visa sticker as oppose to old style where the photo page was more thicker. (Not that I am complaining :) )

Hello Everyone

Hope you all had a good xmas :)

I'm back, I'm going to apply for my passport now; so if I understood well: after submission, you get a text acknowledging receipt of your application (which takes about 5 days), then your foreign passport + certificate of citizenship back (which takes around 14 days), then the interview letter, which takes 2 or 3 weeks, then you phone and get an appointment within 2 weeks and then the passport about a week after the interview, right?

And you get your documents and passport by registered letter if you pay the extra 3 quid?

Cheers

D

1. 21 Oct 2013-application sent with original supporting documents and passport

2. 18 Nov 2013 Acknowledgement of receipt of application letter from UKBA received.

3. 18 December 2013: Letter confirming application was successful recived together with original documents and passport in self addressed recorded mail envelope which I sent with application for secure return of original documents and passport. :D

4. Letter inviting for citizenship ceremony anticipated in first week of 2014
as per confirmation letter that application was successful.

Tips

Read rules and fill form carefully.

Watch out for rule requiring applicant to be in country on equivalent day of application five years prior to date on which application is made. Eg in my case the international travel records must have indicated that I was physically present in the UK on 22 Oct 2008 since my application reached UKBA on 22 Oct 2013.

Ensure dates travelled in and out of UK is correctly recorded on Application form.

Ensure dates living in different addresses correctly recorded.

Send as many original correspondence and notices from HMRC covering a long period as possible to show tax matters are in order.

Six months latest original bank current account statements

Correspondence indicating credit cards

Proof Council tax fully paid.

In addition to filling in the referees contact details make typed out statements of their references, and send it with the application. Make sure referees are eligible for the application. I used two trade union officials one of which was an ex colleague.

Ref statemente must be short:

Eg

I the undersigned hereby confirm that I know Roh Smith since 2008 in the following capacity:xxxxcx

I know him to be of good law abiding character and of good courteous disposition.

I confirm that I am not related to Roh, that I do not have any criminal record or unspent criminal convictions.

I further confirm that I do not know the other referree being used in this application.

Signed

Designation

Address, email, telephone no.

SENDING GENUINE SIGNED WRITTEN STATEMENTS FROM REFEREES MAY HELP EXPEDITE APPLICATION AS OFFICER MAY NOT HAVE TO WASTE TIME CONTACTING EACH REFEREE.

Send proof of ownership of property or copy of tenancy agreement.

DO A COVERING LETTER DIRECTING OFFICER TO HOW EACH ASPECT OF THE RULES ARE MET, AND LIST THE SUPPORTING DOCS IN COVERING LETTER-OFFICER WILL APPRECIATE GUIDANCE -BUT BE GENUINE AND HONEST. COVERING LETTER MUST BE CLEAR AND PRECISE AND BE HELPFUL-NOT COMPLICATE AND CREATE DOUBT.

GOOD LUCK

Passport applied(Check and Send Service): 13Dec2013
Original Documents received: 19Dec2013
Passport interview: 28Dec2013
Passport Received by me: 1 Jan 2014
Interviewer was very friendly, most of the time we talked as a friend. Like How a Car is designed ( I work in a Car design studio). What kind of computers are used to do the work. Which Cars I worked on etc. My specks.
My personal info asked was:
My Mom Dad D.O.B and Place.
My all previous addresses from the time I first came to UK.
Banks I hold accounts, Credit cards, any loan or Mortgage.
Who lives in my house, is it rented or owned?
My wife's name, marriage date.
I think my interview didn't last more than 15 mins.
This forum was very very useful to me, I thank all the moderators and members to make this so informative.
Wish you all Best of Luck and a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2014.
