Hi all,
A quick clarification regarding surrender of Indian passport. After obtaining naturalization when you surrender your Indian passport, will they cancel and return the original Indian passports (old ones) back? Or will they retain it?

I know someone has answered this before but I forgot what the response was and not sure what the current procedure is..

can someone pls clarify..

thanks,
km

Hi

I will be submitting my application for surrendering of Indian Passports at VFS Birmimgham next week.
Please clarify my following doubts
1. Can I collect the surrender certificates and cancelled passports personally on the same day or should i get the self addressed special delivery envelope for safer side?

Please respond.

Thanks

VFS is an agency. They will forward your application and passport to HCi/CGI for cancelletion. The process will take few days and subsequently you can collect surrender certificate and cancelled passport in person or get it returned by post.

Application Date : 29/01/2014 (royal mail special delivery)
VFS Received On : 30/01/2014
VFS sent to HCI : not sure , no SMS and no Email received
HCI Under processing confirmation : not sure no information received
Surrender Certificate Issue Date : 03/02/2014
Receipt of Surrender certificate : 05/02/2014 ( thru royal mail special delivery which I enclosed )

the difference in applying in person and in post is around £20. as when u apply in person , u dont pay any extra charges for paying in cash or card . but by postal application u need to pay £12.5 for postal order and charges for the onward postal delivery.

I wanted someone to clarify the law regarding surrender certificate
According to the Section 8 of the Citizenship Act 1955, The provisions for making a declaration of renunciation under Indian citizenship law require that the person making the declaration be "of full age and capacity". Therefore shouldnt the fine and fees be only applicable since i became 18 years of age?

Any clarification?

Section 9 of the citizenship act supercedes Section 8.

Section 9 is automatic termintation of citizenship through voluntary acquisition of a foreign nationality where as Section 8 is voluntary renunciation of indian citizenship (minors can't renounce until they reach 18 years of age)

Hi all,

Just wanted to share some info for people using vfs services. If you plan to apply at vfs Cardiff please do not use them. I submitted my application in person at vfs carfiff on 18th feb 2014 & it had not been sent to HCI even today. They hold your application until they have enough to courier them to HCI..

I am been given the run around for my passport and still have no response as to where my application is.

my Indian passports are with UK passport office and I have to travel due to an emergency back home. Does anyone know what the passport office will do in my circumstance?

If they abandon my application then travel plans in April get messed up and if they don't give my documents back I cannot travel not to attend to the emergency..

why don't you call the passport advice line and explain your need for emergency travel? they are usually very helpful and may help expediate the process for you.

Thanks ban.s. I had called them before posting and they said they will get the caseworker to call me.

Everything worked out well. The passport office were very helpful. They asked for proof of emergency which I gave them. They actually expedited the process and completed the checking so that it could move to the interview stage. As a result i could get supporting documents back.

They even allowed me to collect it from their office where the application was progressing. I haven't received the letters for arranging interviews as yet but hopefully in the next few days probably.

I am in the process of applying surrender Certificate for me, my wife and my daughter (2 years 5 months old)

Can you kindly confirm the Surrender Certificate fees for all three of us ?

Should I have to take postal order for 351.72 GBP ( 117.24 * 3 ) if I send it by Post ? Is there discount for Minor?

Kind Regards
