Was that a skill that a work permit could be used for?

I don't know.

You could do a freedom of information request to get the old guidance. Alternatively you could see your local MP and ask if they could do the same.

Out of interest, why do you want to know? Do you mean just before 2000, say in 1999, or any time before 2000?

I guess I was a bit concerned because some people think just because a person is on a work permit, they are not very skilled, dumping us in the same category as domestics. I work hard at my job and have to keep updating my skills.

Here is the guidance for 04/04/2004 to 02/10/2005.

http://web.archive.org/web/200505190857 ... Cnotes.doc

A small start and valid over 5 years ago.

The scheme used to be administered by the Overseas Labour Service, part of the DfEE.

There is something out there for 2000 that you can read but I have not been able to find archived guidance from 2000.

http://web.archive.org/web/200010190356 ... hange1.htm

See this from 1998 in the national archives:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/EROR ... /c5s1b.htm

Guidance notes for 2002:

http://web.archive.org/web/200303081401 ... idance.doc

Hope this helps with whatever you want the information for.

If they do, well, what do they know anyway.

Work permits have had unskilled schemes in the past, and domestic workers were not covered by the work permit scheme in any case. But the main scheme was for skilled people.

Most employers and people I know do not think that of work permit holders. I don't understand who these "some people" could be.
