Private oath ceremony

Post by timnaq » Wed Dec 01, 2021 11:14 am

Dear All,

May I request guidance on below queries please :

1) I plan to book private ceremony for oath for 4 adult people of the same family. Will it cost 175 per person or 175 for the ceremony for all 4 family members ?

2) Do they offer private ceremony on weekends or evening ? I have difficulty going Monday to Friday as I am working 9-5. I have not been able to reach council phone helpline so please guide with your experience.

3) If early dates are not available in our council, can we book in another nearby council ? What will be the process for this ?

Thank you.

The fees for private ceremonies are not standard, but are decided by and up to the local council to set. You may want to speak to the local council directly and discuss these questions.

Again, up to the local council. Private ceremonies are up to the local council and the terms and costs are for them to decide. Check with the specific local council directly.

Also, can you not take time off from work? This is a pretty important day in your life (presumably), the culmination of a long journey.

Bad idea. While you can change councils, that can take months, as the certificate is sent by the local council currently having it to the Home Office, who would then send it over to the new council. That entire process, across multiple levels and types of bureaucracy, can take months. Much better to wait for the dates to become free.
