Process after MN1 approval

Post by Kamana » Mon Nov 11, 2019 8:58 am

Hi, could someone please tell me the process after MN1 is approved?

I understand that up on approval I will get a letter through post but I'm not clear what I should do next? (I know the letter will have it all explained but want to know in advance to plan few things)

Q1. Do they send a certificate with the letter or do I have to go to the council to collect the certificate?
Q2. Once I get the certificate can I use it to travel (use it like the BRP card) but with non-UK passport?
Q3. If yes, on arrival do I have to physically hold the certificate and show it to the immigration officer?
Q4. Is applying for the UK passport is mandatory after MN1 is approved?

Thanks

That depends on the basis of the registration.

If the child had an entitlement to registration (such as by being born in the UK), the certificate is posted to the address.

if the child is being registered because a parent is being naturalised, the certificate is handed over to the parent along with their naturalisation certificate during the parent's citizenship ceremony.

No. You would need to apply for either a British passport or a CoE-RoA for the child.

No.

But the child can't travel using just the MN1 certificate. So they will need either a British passport or a CoE-RoA in their non-British passport to travel.

Hi Simon - Registering due to a parent was granted ILR recently (kids were born in the UK)
Q1. so the certificate will be posted to the address I guess?
Q2. Can they apply for the passport as soon as they get the certificate? /no need to wait for ceremonies?
Q3. To apply from the UK, do the kids have to be physically in the UK to apply for the passport or can one of the parent/friend do the process for them?
Q4. Will any part of the passport application process requires their original non-uk passport?

(I'm hoping to fly out while MN1 is in process and someone else in the UK to apply for their passport once we get the certificate)

Thanks
