Profession for HSMP

Is there any specific profession for which HSMP is generally given. My feeling is that I have seen HSMP given majorly to either Finance or IT people. Has somebody else got this visa as some other field professional. If yes then can you please let me know the area of experience.

Your previous and/or intended field is irrelevant to the HSMP criteria and application.

You need to score at least 75 points based on any combination of certain factors (none of which are your profession). Incidentally, I'm in product management/marketing and I hold an HSMP visa.

But perhaps I'm misunderstanding your question. Are you simply asking what professions are most likely to, by design, qualify an applicant for HSMP?

I have been reading this forum for quite a few years now. And I ahve seen that people get HSMP on different Background. I for sure have seen people, not from IT/finance activities get approval.

Also from point allocation inthe guidelines, area of expertise/work is irrelevant.

Um, you have got the situation backward: finance and IT may be more likely to apply for HSMP therefore they are more likely to get it. But there's no UK government preference for people in those roles, it's just a coincidence that people in those industries seem interested in moving to the UK. Does this make sense?

Since HSMP approval is in part determined by earnings, the bias may well be toward people with higher incomes, which are more prevalent in finance and IT; market forces shaping employment prospects would seem far more likely to be determinants of whether people apply for HSMP. I'm one of the non-finance and non-IT people; I'm a researcher in the academic/NGO research sector, and my sense is that non-PhDs people over age 30 in my field would perhaps have a bit more difficulty accumulating sufficient points because of the general trends in pay in my sector, compared to finance and IT.

But actual occupation is itself not a factor in the decision to grant approval in either the initial approval or entry clearance processes.

This argument is well presented. People in finance/accounting int the UK especially if they are wroking in Investement banking get much higher selary then any other profesision. That is the reason why they could easily satisfy the income criteria.

Thanks a lot for all your comments and they all make sense and have widen my knowledge around HSMP.

The reason I was asking this question was that one of my friend is applying for HSMP and she is from into merchandizing/ marketing of an apparel brand so was just thinking is she will be able to prove that her skills are required in UK as when I filed my application I did send a no. of job openings results to in my file which show that my skills are in demand and I can easily obtain a job.

The current HSMP evaluation process does not consider whether the applicant's skills are in demand.

You need to prove that your previous education, earnings, etc qualify you under the current scheme...you don't need job adverts until you get to the EC step. Conversely, if you can't gather up the necessary points, then however in demand your skills may be becomes irrelevant.

Again, your friend's occupation is irrelevant to her HSMP application, except to the extent that one's occupation defines their earnings to a great degree.

If I were in your friend's shoes, I would not include any extraneous items in my application. The required documents are plenty complicated and nitpicky on their own, if you include unnecessary and irrelevant documentation, you only muddy your application.

However, she will need to prove employability later, during her EC application.
