Proof of address for spouse's visa

Post by junai » Wed Nov 25, 2009 11:17 am

I read somewhere that you need to provide a utility or council tax bill as proof of address and that no other document will suffice. Is this true?

All utility bills and council tax are included as part of my rent so i don't have these documents. I do however have bank statements, copy of electoral roll with my name and address on it, driving licence with current address and various other assorted communication to my address. Will any of these documents do?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is this for spouse ILR application? If so, it doesn't have to be utility bills.

These documents should be fine. Anything from offical places such as bank statements, internet bills, mobile bills etc... should suffice.

if they want to get funny, they may also ask for proof that the accommodation is suitable; to prove this you need to phone your local council and ask them to do a Housing Inspection for Entry Clearence

depending on your local council they may or may not charge a small fee for this, but it's the only PROOF the UKBA accept that accommodation is suitable

Think it depends where you apply.....as when we did all we had was rent satements and a copy of the rent book and the solicitor wrote in the covering letter that I have a three bedroomed house......

Its ridiculous dont you think the way they operate...no one follows the same rules!

Out of curiousity, does this apply to council housing only? If one lives in private rented accomodation, do they still need to call the local council for a housing inspection clearance?
