Proposed Changes - Back to square one?

Post by try-one » Thu Mar 09, 2006 10:03 pm

Hi,
I got my HSMP in Jan 05, extended three years in Jan 06....mostly thanks to this board....
I was working under Work Permit and in September I will be able to apply for ILR (4 years continuos work in the UK).
I doubt (more..I really hope) that they implement the new tier system at the end of 2007....but I need to ask the board regarding information they have seen about when will the changes and how will the changes be implemented.
The language of the documentation from the Home Office refers to re applying for people under WP; so, would they make everyone reapply? that's a huge number of people? how would the control the number of applications? would people under HSMP have to reapply?
Any information is welcome, I just feel that I'm back to square one....reading all the HO information and again not feeling sure, not feeling safe about the whole situation......changing conditions on a contract is likely to make you loose your market.....

You say you can apply for ILR in September this year. It is extremely clear that the changes announced this week will not be introduced until some date in 2007 ... so it is not clear to me what you are worrying about?

Hi John,
They just extended the ILR from 4 to 5 years....for starters I'm concerned about the changes...
Now I have to wait until next year to apply for ILR and likely until 2009 for the british passport....crazy changes....

Try-one, of reflection, I paid too much attention to your statement "in September I will be able to apply for ILR" and not enough to the fact that you will be applying after 03.04.06 and therefore caught by the 5-year rule.

Apologies for not picking up on that point.
John
