Proving 3 years residence self-employed

Post by shadowfax » Wed Aug 10, 2022 8:58 pm

I became a UK Citizen at the beginning of the year. My wife has now submitted her application and is gathering her documents to upload to the UKVCAS website.

Since she's married to me she only needs to prove 3 years residence but what documents will actually prove this in the eyes of the Home Office.

She has settled status, she has been self employed for over 4 years. She will submit all her HMRC tax documents that prove she has been self employed over the last 3 years, but what else is needed?

She has gathered:

1) Her Passport
2) My UK Passport as proof she is married to a UK Citizen
3) The two referee forms
4) Tax documents evidencing self-employment including company start date
5) Proof of mortgage payments over the past 3 years
6) Marriage certificate

Is that enough? Anything else anything can suggest that would help? Thanks! :)

#5 is not required.
Note the self-employment documents act as proof of residency (not proof of self-employment).

But needs also required:
- English test
- LITUK test
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Yes, she is including that also, however, I was referring to things that prove her 3 years of residence. Any help with that?

It depends on her nationality. UK visa required national or not?

If visa required, then she gets stamped in every time she enters the UK, so passport only would suffice.

If otherwise, the P60's should be fine.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Since she is self employed, there are no P60s involved, as I said above. :)

She has settled status as an EEA national, so no stamps in her passport unfortunately.

Is council tax in her name? If so, you should be able to use that. The way to prove residence is through official government letters in her name (eg DVLA, HMRC, Home Office, letters from the electoral register) so if you have these letters you can use them (but I don't know how many you would need of them).
