Proving you are not (and were never) a South African Citizen

Post by new2waix » Wed Mar 14, 2007 12:34 pm

I am applying for an German passport and the authorities have asked for evidence that my father NEVER attained South African Citizenship.
  • --My father was born (1950) outside of South Africa (SA), and entered SA when he was four-years old on his mothers European passport.

--My father resided in SA for approximately 30 years (leaving for Australia).

--During his time in SA he never applied for or held a SA passport. He was only a SA resident.

--In his late teens he acquired a German passport which he held for ~10 years.
How can I attain a document to prove he never attained SA citizenship? Who do I contact? Where do I send the paperwork? What is the cost? What is the processing time?

Thanks!

I think the best option would be to contact the South African High Commission in London and ask them for a letter confirming that your fahter never attained SA citizenship and what his status was whilst in SA.

Don't know about SA but know about people who lived in another country having to prove they never received citizenship (or served in the army) there.

Find out what govt agency in SA keeps a record of all naturalizations (or all citizens, as for voting purposes etc.) and get a certificate from them stating that your father's name is not on the list of all citizens.
