PSW to Tier 2 Future concerns. Any Advice?

Post by cipherap15 » Tue Jul 05, 2011 4:11 am

I am doing my masters in actuarial science next year but this PSW to tier 2 sponsorship change is really concerning me. I'm from Canada.

I am assuming if you start your degree in Sept 2011 you are not eligible for PSW unless you complete by April 2012 which obviously wont happen.

Do companies give tier 2 sponsorships or when they see that in the application do they just toss it aside? I am thinking about dropping my masters course if getting a tier 2 is difficult.

Any advice is much appreciated.

even more specific.....might not go to UK anymore

These are some more questions...If you can answer any of the questions....not even all of them...it will be much help...and much appreciated..

I’ve been told only 20700 Tier 2 visa’s will be available next year…is that correct? And if so, is that quota always met or is that a significant reduction in tier 2 visa’s and therefor it would be very difficult to receive employment by getting one of those visas EVEN IF A COMPANY AGREES TO SPONSOR? Or is it pretty straight forward to get a tier 2 visa if a company agrees to sponsor and the limit is not a big worry?

Is this 20700 Tier 2 visa limit for general international people looking for employment from other countries or specifically does this limit include graduating masters students or are they considered separate from this limit?

Is there a limit right now to the number of tier 2 visa’s or is that after April 2012 as well?

If you’re a student beginning Sept 2011 and graduating July 2012(After April 2012) will you be eligible for the Post Study Work Visa?

Along with this I heard this as well…..2-year post study work rule will be made more strict and only available for skilled work in the student's FIELD OF STUDY? Or is that not true?

Any advice you can give me is much appreciated. If these changes are this significant I am thinking about not coming to the UK for school anymore. Very important decision and it’s tough to find answers.

This is for the Out of Country application. If you're inside UK and on a PSW and worked for the company for a while and they're willing to sponsor you, Given they're registered with Home office and have COS Assigned for you. (Given you earn enough for your job title as specified in the SOC list) There is no limit to in country application. This number only applies to those who apply from outside UK.

Refer to previous answer. You seem very confused. If you're inside UK and wish to switch to TIER2 there is NO LIMIT.

Is there a limit right now to the number of tier 2 visa’s or is that after April 2012 as well?

There is a limit on how many Out of country applications can be made for TIER2 now, What will happen in 2012 Only god knows.. They might increase this limit, Reduce it even abolish it. It's their call.

Yes if you successfully complete your degree. However there might be Reforms for PSW which we don't know yet. Rumor is that Only Masters qualification is accepted, PSW reduced from 2 years to 1 year.. So far.. It's only a rumor as far as I'm aware.

I have no idea. None of these are official yet.

My General advise for you is if you're looking forward to enter UK as a student and looking forward to Move to work permit and then hopefully gain ILR then I wouldn't recommend you coming to UK. Lot of people are already suffering and Home office has become ruthless now. If you come to UK as a student, Come and study, Get your qualifications and leave. If you come here as a work permit holder, Work and make some money then from the looks of it you may have to leave.

You can always marry a EU or EEA member in UK (Given then exercise their treaty rights) you can get 5 years Resident card + ILR afterward.

Good luck mate..

Well said but I think you have to pay taxes, VAT, etc, etc.... and at the end of the day, you will end up with almost nothing.

You should not be giving wrong or inaccurate information if you don't know.
There are NO new rumors or new reforms to PSW. To clarify PSW will remain in its current form until april 2012. After that, UK graduates will only be able to stay if they get a sponsor who is willing to pay them a minimum of 20'000 a year…

YES you did because you still don't seem to understand that the reforms to PSW have already been approved and announced. You are out of date with your knowledge to what happened to PSW in late March this year.

All the speculations in this forum ended after the reforms came into place… I would advise you to read the recent reforms at the UKBA site… NONE of the things you cited in terms of PSW being reduced to 1 year or limited to Masters students will occur and there are no plans to further reform it.

The new reforms affecting PSW involve:
- Closing PSW it in its current form in April 2012.
-From April 2012 Graduates will still be able to stay for 2 years, but they will need a registered sponsor who at least pays something around 20,000 pounds a year. Also graduates seeking a job will not need to go through the resident labour market test.
-Finally there will be a new route for student entrepreneurs. Details of this are said to be given in due course.
