PSW - Urgent reply needed

Hi

I seek an urgent advice on the following matter so expect to receive reply soon

My husband is a Masters student in a recognized UK university. He is almost done with his degree except to re-sit one exam on 6 Dec 08 and submission of dissertation the deadline is 5 Jan 09. Now his student visa is expiring on 31 Dec 08. So in this case can he apply for student visa extension? Or can he apply PSW if he obtains a letter from university that he has completed the desired credits except the dissertation. Please reply early.
