I just found this website so I hope this is the right forum for my question (I couldn't decide whether this should go under ILR or British citizenship because it's very much about the intermediate time). Please let me know if this is under the wrong section so I can avoid future mistakes.
I came to the UK from a Commonwealth country in November 2009 as a dependent on my father's Tier 1 visa. However, my parents separated the following year, leading to my mother getting her own Tier 1 visa in September 2010 and 'taking the kids with her' (visa-wise). This led to a discounting of the time I spent resident in the UK between November 2009 and September 2010 as far as the five-year residency requirement for an indefinite leave to remain (ILR) application is concerned. For this reason, I cannot apply for ILR until September 2015 even though I'm mere days short of having lived here for 5 years.
My question is to do with what happens if and when I have obtained ILR. Am I required to maintain any sort of relationship or contact with the visa-holder (my mother) once I have obtained ILR? I know that I must have had ILR for at least 12 months prior to applying for British citizenship. During these 12 months, do I still need the visa-holder to apply for me or can I leave and apply by myself? Do I still need to live with or, indeed, even be in contact with the visa-holder?
I will be over the age of 18 in September 2015 so technically I'd be applying for ILR as an adult anyway. I'd be grateful for any advice.
Regards,
immigranite
