Question regarding children from ex-wife in Naturalisation Application

Post by mkp1258 » Sat Jan 10, 2026 11:00 am

I am applying for British Naturalisation and below is my situation:

Situation: I am divorced and I am currently not partnered with anyone. From my previous marriage, I have two biological children. They live outside the UK with my mother, who is raising them on my behalf. I have sole responsibility for both children and they are my dependants: I have legal custody of one child, and legal proceedings are currently in progress in relation to the second child. These two children are not included in my naturalisation application and they do not currently hold UK visas. It is possible that they may apply for a family visa and/or British citizenship at a later stage.

I need to answer the following two questions in the application and wasn't sure what to write:

1. Do you have any children whose birth parent is not your partner?
2. Do you have any dependants not applying with you at this time?

HIghly appreciate your support with these two questions.

1. Do you have any children whose birth parent is not your partner? Answer Yes as biological parent is not your partner
2. Do you have any dependants not applying with you at this time? Answer Yes as they are not applying with you. You can explain the situation in a cover letter if you so wish but it will not affect your statutory requirements either way.

HIghly appreciate your support with these two questions.
