reimmigration to Chennai from UK, LLC contractor query

I have a colleague (UK citizen, Indian Citizen overseas) who is returning to Chennai, India for personal reasons. He has been given the opportunity to retain his current position (as a software developer at a major bank) if he can figure out how to work remotely legally.

Is anybody in this forum familiar with the situation in Chennai regarding setting up an LLC corporation for the purpose of being a contractor. Are there any other common situations such as umbrella companies?

Also, where can he go to get a sense of the going contract rate for a person of his skills (Distinguished Software Engineer with 20 years experience)
