Rejection_My work not a graduate level one?

Post by Aura » Thu Feb 02, 2006 6:12 am

Hi All,
I am an Industrial Designer with Masters from IIT. I applied under 28 and got rejection on 2 grounds:
1. Age
2. Work experience
Age:They say i did not give sufficient age proof whereas i had attached a copy of my Passport and my College Leaving certificate. However my agent did not attched xerox copy of passport with the additional copy of documents that goes with the original documents. HSMP team has returned my originals but now i have no proof that my passport copy was attached with the originals. To add to it, my agent has also mistyped my birth year which still doesnt make me 28 and Over. But the biggest blunder is that no where in the covering letter or HSMP form , it is mentioned that my passport has been attached. Hence i have no proof to defend my self.
Work Experience: I have 2.5 yrs Graduate level work experience form 2 multinational companies in India. But the HSMP team dont seem to be convinced with my job responsibilities as an Industrial Designer....now thts funny!! Because my reference letter clearly states that for my position the minimum requiremnets is a MAsters degree from IIT.

Now how do i convince my Case worker about:
1. The typgraphical mistake in the form (Made by my agent).
2. The ignorance of the team- failing to look at my passport copy attached.
3. My work is of graduate level.

I had called them up and they suggest me to appeal.

Friends please suggest!!

I am sorry to hear about the refusal.
The agent should have been more careful in filling some of the details.

IMHO, I dont think applying for a review will solve your problem, but just waste some more of your time. Hence, I would suggest that you make a fresh application ( with out the mistakes ).

My agent suggested that I either submit a birth certificate or the original of passport ( not xerox ), so I sent the original of my passport. So next time, you may want to consider submitting the proper birth certificate or the original passport itself.

And regarding the work-experience, again IMHO if you just above 2yrs experience, it is difficult for them to believe that you have all 2 yrs as graduate level unless you have a detailed list of duties and responsibilities. By just mentioning that it requries IIT or BITS education will not suffice.

I hope that helps. Good luck with your fresh application or review, which ever you may choose.

I agree with webhunter that a review will not solve your problem.

It seems like you have lost the 5 points needed for age because of the mistakes made in your application. Further more you have no idea weather or not the passport copy was also sent among the document. Please note that you cannot send additional documentation during the review, they will not take it under consideration.

If you think the points from work experience is enough to get you approved and you have a chance there, then by all means ask for a review. You could write a letter stating why you think you deserve points for work experience, making pointers to the documentation you have submitted.

I am not sure by just proving the experience alone in the review you can be successful. I guess your entire application ( salary, yrs of experience etc) are all dependent and calculated based on your age proof.

So with out the age proof, all the rest of the proofs they might not even consider.

If I start to think twice, I think your application is primarily rejected because of unability to prove age. I heard from an expert that if they can't establish the age proof(for under 28) then automatically you will get 0 points for your experience because the 2 yrs/ 4 yrs/ 5 yrs are all considered only after confirming the age.

My advice is make a fresh application as soon as possible with age evidence, and you might stand a good chance for approval.

Rejection_My work not Graduate level

Post by Aura » Thu Feb 02, 2006 1:40 pm

Thankyou friends for ur suggestions!
I have spoken to the home office and the representative of my Caseworker. All she suggested me was to make a request for Review. Thats what i have done today. Faxed my 5 page review letter to them ( believe me its a days job to fax documents to the one and only one fax number they have).
Coming back to my Age evidences, i myself agree with Webhunter too and speculate that one thing has led to the another ( No age proof hence no work exp). But i fail to understand why the team has not considered my ORIGINAL COLLEGE LEAVING CERTIFICATE as my birthproof. Afterall even passports are made on basis of Leaving certificates!!!
Well today i also receive a reply from my Caseworker stating that its not just that im less for 5 yrs. graduate level work exp ( considering me as 28 yrs. and Over) but also that my work is not of graduate level.
Well i had a detailed refrence letter form my respective companies showing my jobs and responsibilities. Coincidently my agent showed me the ASCO standards of australia and to my surprise my company refernce letters have all those points mentioned which clearly shows where Industrial Designer are placed in the industry.
Well any people in this forum with Creative backgrounds...any Designers?? any Product/Industrial designers?? with success stories to tell??
Well Olympics on head doesnt' UK require any creative people???
