To update, I received confirmation my application was successful in mid Sept (applied beginning of March). Currently now waiting on a letter from my local embassy for a ceremony to complete the process. If it helps, the confirmation came in the post by recorded delivery, I cant remember exactly which service. I didn't (and still havn't) receive(d) an email. Neither myself nor my referees were contacted in my application.
As you asked for an opinion:
My previous renunciation of British citizenship was due to an obligation to do so after taking another nationality. From what I understand, this is the main reason to have a likely automatic right to re-register British citizenship. When renouncing for any other reason, it seems your application would be at the discretion of the Home Secretary, which maybe explains the length of time its taking you, especially in an election year. As such, seems hard to predict the outcome, I can imagine it could rest heavily on the details of the reasons you had around renouncing for the job you took and the explanation of them in the cover letter supplied with your application. Possibly also details of the reasons for a need to return to the UK in the future. I don't imagine having been a citizen by descent or otherwise than by descent will make a difference to the outcome. These are just opinions though, I don't have any legal background on this. My views are mostly based on various UK gov guidance docs for the process i've read online.
Either way good luck, hope you hear soon! Would be interested to know the outcome when you receive the letter.
