Retired person of independent means

I'm just thinking ahead to a time when my parents may have a desire to come live in the UK once they retire...and I have been wondering something about this visa.

I know one of the requirements for this visa is that the applicant must have an annual income of no less than £25,000. Must the applicant show that they have an INDEFINITE and on-going yearly income of £25k or more? Or is it sufficient to show access to £25k a year up until ILR is granted? ie, if the sale of a house gives the applicant a lump sum of, say, £300,000 at the time of application, but there is no yearly income?

Also, is ILR granted after 5 years on this visa? And does the visa holder and their spouse have use of the NHS while here on this visa? Inquiring daughters want to know!

I think that it will be okay to show access to at least 25K per year until the ILR is granted. A Lump sum should be acceptable.

ILR will be granted if paragraph 269 is satisfied.

Note that the start of the 5-year probationary period occurs when your parents initially enters the UK. So, consider the 'effective' and 'expiry' dates of the visa carefully when applying for the visa.

They will be eligible for free NHS medical treatments.
