returning Child BRP after citizenship

Post by tier21419 » Thu Jul 04, 2019 10:31 am

Hello,
We received British registration of one of our children on 21/06 and I then have applied for her passport. However, until now i have not returned her PBS dependent BRP (it is mentioned in the letter that we should return it). The reason for not returning it yet is because I am worried that the passport office might ask to send her previous BRP and if I return it to UKVI then I might not be able to do that.
Do you see this a problem? Shall I send the brp to UKVI? If yes, what if the PO asks for it and then I don't have it with me?

p.s: I also applied passport of my second child (who never travelled outside the UK and hence did not had PBS dependent visa. His passport application is already been approved. However, his passport application was dealt by another passport office.

Why would the passport office ask for a BRP to be sent when the child has been registered as British and has the registration certificate???

You are overthinking the process!!!

Thanks for your reply. I cant remember but I think I have read it on this forum that the PO asked for BRP to see child previous travel history. That's why I did not send the BRP yet.
Do you think I should return the BRP while the passport application is still under process?

No, you are mistaken. Travel history is irrelevant to applying for a passport after registration as British on MN1, especially as your child appears to be UK born and had an entitlement to citizenship registration. A BRP is only a card, not history of travel. You are likely confusing a number of things that are not relevant to your circumstances.

If the letter you got with citizenship approval stated to send it back, you should send it back.

OK thanks. Yes, it does say to return it. I will do this tomorrow. Hopefully, they won't put a penalty for late return?
