Returning ILR Docs

Post by AzimScot » Thu Sep 30, 2010 5:40 pm

Sent my ILR documents away today however I included a special delivery plastic large envelope bag will the home office send it back in that bag special delivery? Its not paid for as I didnt know the weight of the item until sending? Do they send back in special delivery or 1st class only?

Same (or similar) in weight to what you sent! UKBA will not pay for your SD envelope so expect your application to be delivered by 1st/2nd class recorded delivery.

To be honest, I don't think the HO even look at whether you've sent a SD envelope or not. I sent one with my change of personal details application recently and was waiting and waiting to receive it back to my work address (where I had addressed it to) and it arrived at home by 1st or 2nd class mail with the SD bag inside it! So frustrating, since they specifically ask you to send it, but then don't use it.

Expect it normal post... bonus if they use your envelope :)

and the obvious risk of it getting lost in post. u could so easily have just paid for weight that you are sending it..

As you can see from my post above... it may not have helped anyway, since they ignored my envelope and all they needed to return to me was a passport, drivers' licence & marriage certificate.

But you're right, in principle. :)

They'll send it back 1st or 2nd class recorded delivery as standard (yes, they'll pay for it). You can choose to include a pre-paid self-addressed Special Delivery envelope if you'd like it sent back more securely. Or that is the theory anyway. As I've mentioned, despite my having done that, they still sent it back their own way... with my self-addressed, pre-paid envelope inside theirs!
