Rule change confusion

My brother have work permit it was for four year. When he come into the uk rules change say that work permit are for 5 year. the work permit he have sayed that it work permit was valid for four year, we not changed it, on work permit in passport - on entry clearance it say that the visa was valid for 5 year. now both thing are lost/damaged, work permit lost, passport damaged, when he apply for replacement work permit through employer will it be valid for 4 year or for five? when he apply for transfer of condition will it be valid for 4 year or 5? we are very confused.

The replacement work permit will be valid for the same period as the original.

but the ec-visa on his passport on his passport was valid for five years. will it not be the same as before?

He can only work till the expiry date on his WP, not his ec-visa.

he can stay in uk till the expiry on entry clearence visa? but he will not allowed to work? so when 4 years are finished on wp he will have to apply for tier 2? thankyou?

when new work permit will come, we will see the day it expires, if the same as before, work npermit for 4 years and entry clearence - work permit visa in passport is for 5 years when work permit expires can my brother still stay in uk legally and then apply for ilr?

Don't u have to show economic activity for the five years?

Sounds like the five yr EC was an error and the person in question should either leave the UK or find a new sponsor.
