Salary Issue....

Am working in an organization since July 2008. From July - December the project went on good, and from January the shifts started as it was a support project. We are getting shift allowance as we are working in shift now.

From July - December i was getting a steady salary for 40,000 a month, and now all of a sudden cos of the shift allowance of 20,000 a month, the salary has shot upto 60,000 now.

The additional 20,000 is in my salary slip as shift allowance .
The same amount is deposited in the bank as shown in the payslip. i.e, if am getting 60,000 after the shift allowance, the same is reflected in the payslip and the same being credited in my salary account.

Do i need to inform home office that the extra 20,000 is for the shift allowance, or i can ignore it and file my application without any issue.
My earnings period are from April 08 - March 09.

If I understood you very well, you may not need the £20K extra to qualify for extension, is it?

If yes, then don't worry about it, just appply based on £40k earning. But if you felt you will need the allowance = £20k to increase your score, then it is better for you to mention it to HO.

Since it is shown on your payslip and declare by your employment contract as part the renumeration you are to enjoy because of the change in your employment circumstance, then I will say that you just go for it as i don't see any issue.

Am applying for Tier 1 for the first time, just to let you know....
I have to show it cos its there on my salary slip, and the same amount being credited into my salary account.

And its not mentioned in my employment contract about the shift allowance. Its just that we are working in shift and the company is giving us the shift allowance.
Am worried cos all of a sudden the salary jumps by 20,000, and am afraid that HO might think it otherwise and reject my application.

I agree with Iyanu. Since amount is already mentioned in your payslip and the corroborated amount is being sent to your bank account, you need not worry.
You are declaring the amount already in your payslip and so is your employer. You can claim the same for earning without any further ado.

I worked in the similar setup where people were paid monthly £250/ as a shift allowance which was perfectly acceptable by home office.
