1. It will be on the Austrian Consulate's website

2. Apples and Oranges, but for two, based on me and my gf's one week stay in Vienna last Xmas - I'd say around 500 Euro a week, call it 4000 Euro but that depends of type of hotel, where u eat etc. Bear in mind renting a flat for only two months may be onerous, with the three month Kaution and 2.75 monthly rent you have to pay the agent in GER/AUS. You might find some empty student accommodation cheaper over summer.

3. Yup but not as dependent, own visa as tourist I'd think.

4. Knowing how they are sticklers for the rules I'd suggest student.

If I where u I'd just go to Germany as a tourist and enrol in the local Volkschule for a language course, my gf did that but she was on a German Work Permit - was really cheap. Do it in Berlin, accommodation is really cheap there plus u get to learn German German and not slightly-different Austrian German!

Check with the language school about how much money they recommend you have. They may also have housing options for you, such as a list of families to stay with.
