schengen visa for eu spouse - impossible ?!!

Post by babiki » Mon Jun 18, 2007 10:45 am

Hello everybody, I have read all the relevant posts, but still, maybe somebody can help me? I am a Czech national, my husband is South African with a residence card in UK until 2011. We have been planning to go to the Czech Republic in a car, need to take lots of stuff back. We have 2 kids, hence don't really want to fly there...but it's been days I have been trying to make an appointment with the French embasy. Today I called few agencies, who deal with visas and was advised they cannot anymore apply for my husband for a EU spouse Schengen visa as we must go there in person...We would love, but the phone line don't work {too busy?} and the internet appointment system either  Then I thought to try the Dutch, as we can take ferry there as well: the same thing, cannot get through. So basically it would be easier if we were not married at all, and he would pay agency to get the visa for him??? I just cannot believe I cannot drive with my family to my country through 3 other European countries!! We just want to drive quickly through, so I thought maybe transit visa would be enough, but then, once again: how to get the appointment??????? Any advise greatly appreciated by me - extremely frustrated EU citizen

Why not follow Directive 2004/38 's advice on the following link and make use of the EU Directive.

Why would that matter in the Schengen area? There are effectively no internal borders inside the Schengen area. So as you drive from say France into Germany there is no border check at all. Same on the way back .... you would enter say Germany and then simply drive into France on your way back to a Channel port.
