Schengen Visa to Visit Italy - Marriage & Birth Certific

Post by anurikavidya » Sun Jun 24, 2007 7:13 pm

Hi,

I am a work permit holder in UK and my family are dependents. I want to visit Italy as a tourist using Schengen Visa.

To apply for Schengen Visa for the entire family,

1. Do i need to have ORIGINAL Marriage Certifcate ?
2. Do i need to have ORIGINAL birth certifcate of the child ?

Instead, can i apply if i just have photocopies of the above, because i don't have the originals with me.

Please respond.

Regards
Anurika

What does it say on the Italian embassy website's visa section, or on the application form??

Photocopies of documents are of absolutely no use whatsoever when applying for a Schengen visa. Any fool with a colour printer and a PC can forge documents and unfortunately a visa officer will not take your word that a photocopy is true representation of the original.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

I think you will find that the certificates need to be originals, and not photocopies.

And where such certificates are not in English, a certified translation into English needs to be supplied as well.

From what you described, are applying for a standard Schengen visa for a non-EU family.

The German embassy web site (which is another Schengen country) describes birth certificates required for children, but does not mention marriage certificate. If the children are in one of the parent's passports, it could be there is little need for the birth certificates.
