You should be able to book your English exam up until even the day before, provided the exam centre has spaces available. However it is better all round if you can book as early as possible to be sure to get the date you require. Make sure you book at an official SELT B1 test centre for the Home ...

Yes you do need to pass both a Secure English Language Test (SELT) and the Life in the UK test to apply for UK citizenship, however it doesn't matter which order you take them in.
