Re: Other naturalisation

Citizenship cannot be revoked before it has been granted. In any case, I can’t imagine a scenario where that would be a possibility, except perhaps in a wartime situation or another, hopefully remote, dystopian future.

Me too, but the weather alerts are over from 6AM. Most people travel on the day so I don’t think there will be a problem. The trains are going slowly but haven’t been cancelled.

I HOPE lol

Monday 9 December Ceremony & Stormy Weather

In the absence of the main ceremony thread, I’m wondering what impact, if any, the current Orange weather alert will have on Monday’s ceremony? Sunday is to be the worst day of the oncoming storm, with Kerry to be one of the worst hit counties. Should be clear by Monday morning, but given the distan...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

September’s aborted ceremony was scheduled for Friday 30th. Which puts Friday 20th December in play (kiboshing multiple Christmas do’s but otherwise doable). I agree though, if December is to happen letters must issue this week. September 30th was a Monday. The ceremony that was cancelled was suppo...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

Not sure it would be the worst case. Jones’s case contested INIS’s decision regarding discretionary absence. He wasn’t contesting their ability to use discretionary powers, just how they were applied in his situation. It was the original judge who threw a spanner in the works by contesting the basic...

Re: September Citizenship Ceremony 2019

I think talk of 2021 is unnecessary, frankly. The govt have gone on record with a promise to introduce a bill, emphasising that it will be sooner rather than later. I think it inconceivable it won’t have passed before the end of the year at the latest. Although I feel the previous poster’s pain - my...

FLR/IL - Priority or super priority?

Hi, My wife’s 2nd FLRM expires on October 23rd. I am aware that we can apply from 28 days beforehand. As explained in a previous post, my wife will obtain Irish citizenship soon, so is minded to avoid the Life in the U.K. Test and just get another FLR (M) extension. That being said, we are keen on k...

Re: September Citizenship Ceremony 2019

If there’s nothing for the following week (beginning 1st October) then it will be a late November/December ceremony for sure.

Re: September Citizenship Ceremony 2019

INIS will need to amend the legislation to remove ambiguity, regardless of the appeal verdict. Even if the strict definition of continuous residence should be rejected, there is still no legal basis for ministerial discretion to be used when approving applications. Without this amendment the govt wo...

I wouldn’t panic just yet. But if no mention is made by the start of October, then it’s goodnight for a late October/early November ceremony:(

Re: September Citizenship Ceremony 2019

I see the schedule of Dail but there is nothing for court ruling in this week https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/dail-schedule/?selecteddate=2019-09-17 Yeah, it may be raised in a question, but looks like it’s previous business/Brexit this week. Only sits for three days too - how do TD’s earn their money?

Re: September Citizenship Ceremony 2019

So, does anyone have a best guess based on something solid for A. Where the next ceremony will be (I mean they have been held in other locations too) and B. When? Or do we just wait for an invitation and see at this point? It depends on how long it takes for the new bill to become law. On the Dail ...

Extend or ILR?

Hi, My wife is currently on her second FLR(M) visa, which expires in mid Nov 19. We live in NI. I am a dual national and my wife is currently awaiting an invitation to receive Irish citizenship. She has already received approval and paid, but must attend a ceremony before it is officially confirmed....

Re: September Citizenship Ceremony 2019

I think they will keep the Dec 9 date if poss, as the hall has already been booked. I have a sneaky suspicion that the next date may already have been reserved with the hotel, as they may have *provisionally* booked a date when moving the Sep 30 to ensure availability. I’m in NI, but a brave should ...

It could clear both houses in a week as an urgent bill, which it has been described. And all references to specific ceremony dates have been removed:

“Further ceremony's [sic!] are due to take place during 2019. at the Killarney Convention Centre, Killarney, Co. Kerry.”

Re: September Citizenship Ceremony 2019

I mean, this is just a nonsense. The date when the Dail will reconvene is a matter of public record. If 4 weeks notice is to be given then September 30th was never going to happen. Why then say in their July statement that they were planning for the ceremony to take place as normal?!! They really ha...

Just got through to the helpline. It's very possible that Septembers ceremony is still going ahead :o   At this stage it's very hard to believe anything they say. Mine is still awaiting signoff from the minister either way. Did they give any more detail about why that may be so, or did ...

Why not just update the website and be done with it?

The lack of transparency surrounding INIS and the citizenship process as a whole is disgraceful.

Re: September Citizenship Ceremony 2019

Depends on the definition of a ministerial ‘decision’, which is distinct from an approval. Ministerial decisions are usually not retrospectively affected by new legal judgments. But that’s one for the constitutional experts/legal team lol. Either way, INIS need to say something this week. Hopeful th...

Re: September Citizenship Ceremony 2019

The minister would have known the typical timescales for passing similar legislation when making the July statement, so stating that the September ceremony was intended to proceed must mean that it was considered a possibility, even if the legislation wasn’t passed. INIS will need to announce someth...
