You most definitely need a transit visa, whether you're leaving the airport or not. If you don't have one you won't be allowed on the plane so either book your visa appointment sharpish or change your ticket to one via Madrid as suggested.
I'm still a bit confused about your inability to pass the Life in the UK test. How have you managed to live in the UK for more than 6 years and obtain ILR and yet still not have a good enough level of English to pass this test? I have known people who lived in the US for 30+ years and still couldn'...
Try Halifax - they definitely give mortgages to people on time limited visas. I only got ILR last year and I have bought 2 properties with them since I moved to the UK (including one on my own with just a year left on my permit free training ltr)
In my pre UKP days I went to Spain 7 times, and never once set foot in their UK embassy. I wish people would boycott all these difficult Schengen embassies like the Spanish and Italian and stick to the French, as for all their sins they have a good onlne booking service and give you the visa the sam...
Hiya All I need to go to Germany for a conference on 10-14 Sep. Today I called german embassy and foiund that the next available Visa appointment is 20th SEP!!!! So I booked a "business visa" appointment instead. I am wondering whether I am eligible for a business visa? If not, is there anyway that...
They look at other things besides how many times you've got Schengen visas, your nationality etc. My twin sister and I have been in the UK for almost exactly the same length of time, on similar visas/LTRs, and our timelines when we applied for naturalization and UK passports were almost identical. S...
Yes you can - as long as you're in the UK when the HO receive the application. I travelled when my application was being considered and my approval arrived when I was away. I also travelled uneventfully between being naturalized and getting my UK passport (i.e. I used my ILR stamp to return to the U...
If you were outside the UK for 18 months or over, your application may be refused - it doesn't make a difference whether you make the application in person or by post. You need to show that you had strong ties to the UK during the absence, and I think 6 months is the maximum time allowed outside the...
Re the interviews, according to the IPS site only a few towns/cities have started this (Newport, Peterborough, Belfast, not London) and I reckon people who have gone through the naturalization process are less likely to be called until it goes nationwide - the reason this has been introduced is to p...
You should have got the visas before you booked the trips. They cannot get multiple entry Schengen visas from the UK, so you have to come up with plan B for the trip.
I know UK medical schools will npt change your international status to home student status... the international/home student ratio is commonly fixed in med schools. Usually a certain percentage of places are ringfenced for international students and the income generated is added to the school's budg...
How is an asylum seeker able to claim income support and get paid housing benefit? He can't be on jobseeker's allowance as he isn't allowed to work, and he can't be on incapacity benefit without NI contributions.. so my guess is that he's a refugee, not an asylum seeker.
Cerfificate of Approval - if one of you has limits on their time in the UK (i.e you) you need to get one of these which will allow you to get married here. Otherwise you're better off getting married in the US and then applying for a spouse visa.
It's hard to say without knowing more about your circumstances.. is there anything that is holding, or may hold things up? Is it a straightforward application? Do you need a CoA? What visa are you applying for - fiancee or spouse?
The queues for security are also horrendous at the London airports but the trick is to check in online, print out a boarding pass and luggage tag and use the fast bag drop - that's what we do everytime now and I cannot remember the last time I checked in the normal way (sometime last year but have f...
Course she can - before I got ILR/BC I used to write invitation letters for all sorts of relatives visiting the UK. They didn't always stay with me, but I guess I was the most reliable relative with regards solvency etc.
