What is the time period granted to move to Australia after

What is the time period granted to move to Australia after your visa is approved?

For example, if the immigration dept. informs that the application for skilled migration has been approved in 2006, is it possible that the applicant takes his time before moving to Australia (say in 2007)?

Thanks Ashwin for the information.

The patent approval process usually takes 1-2 years. I have no points in earnings sections. So i think, its of no use applying for HSMP now.
