I have been called for interview on 21st April.

I guess, passport will come shortly after that as it happens in UK. I am planning to travel back to UK as soon as I get the passport.

Your local FRRO/FRO will issue exit permit so contact them in the first instance. The exit permit is normally issued 2/3 days prior to departure - passport, temp residence permit (if any), birth certificate, confirmed dep ticket, proof of address are key requirements. I applied on 28th Oct. I got email today to attend an interview at VFS on 21st April.
Will update.

Does anyone know once passport arrives, do we need to get exit permit? How to get that?

I applied on 28th Oct.
I asked the Liverpool office, they said its still in security check stage. Don't know how long it will take.
