To register a birth or not?

Apologies in advance if this post is slightly off-topic. I'm a naturalised UK citizen, thanks in large part to the wonderful people on these boards. My son was born this year (after I became a UK citizen) while we were living in the US. Question: The UK Consulate in the US says it's not required to ...

Immigration for siblings

Hi to all of the moderators and other experts. I've searched for an answer to this on the web but haven't been able to find one. My wife is desperate to bring her sister to the UK to live. Does anyone know of any immigration provision that would allow this? My wife currently has ILR and will soon be ...

Social Security number

Hi. My wife has received approval for a green card as the spouse of a US citizen. (We went through the whole process at the US Embassy in London.) She now has an immigrant visa in her passport and a sealed package of documents to hand to the immigration officer when we enter the US. Can anyone ...

Thanks, John and JAJ, for your helpful responses. I've read through the Annex F to the Home Office Nationality Instructions http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/ind/en/home/laws___policy/policy_instructions/nis/chapter_18/annex_f.html If I'm reading this correctly, it seems that as long as I pass the ...

Moving before naturalisation approval?

Hi, everyone. These are fantastic boards and a great public service! I'll be applying for naturalisation as a UK citizen (using NCS) in March (4 yrs WP + ILR). Getting British citizenship is very important to me. (I'm sure you all understand!) Here's the problem: I have just received a career ...

Paul,

I'm definitely going to try the checking service. From reading the postings on this board it seems that wait times can range from one week to a few months. Does that seem to be the case? Is there any average wait time that you've been able to discern?

Thanks!

Jason

Thanks, Paul, for your excellent reply. I've read through every Annex and this indeed does seem to be the one reference to applying while unemployed. However, there's no place on the application form to put that your are unemployed! I guess I'll just write it in, then add an explanation on the ...

Unemployment affect naturalisation application?

Hi. Thanks in advance for your help with this question. I am applying for naturalisation based on 4 years on WP plus 1 year ILR. I meet all criteria, but am wondering if the fact that I was made redundant by my company last June will affect my application? I won't be applying until March, so if need ...
