Yes I'm fully aware of the implications and would never give that as a reason for the visit. I guess the best we could do is 6 months then. Oh and edwinuk, I am also aware of childcare support, however that is not the point. My wife and I don't have any parents over here who could help look after ...

Domestic Worker Visa but you'd need to fulfil the criteria.
That's only valid for 6 months as well, and costs a lot more than a visit visa.

Visa for non-British Mother in law?

Is there a visa that would let a non-EU citizen come to the UK to help look after the kids? Apart from a visit visa which is only valid for 6 months.
