I'm not trying to be hostile, but creating multiple accounts like that is inconsiderate and deceptive to those who have selflessly given their time in the first place. And it does contravene the board's established policy on the matter. So yes, you've acted inappropriately. That said, I get that you...

You know, this poster's story sounds almost completely identical to this other person's, plt22 . They're the same age, both Israeli, have Romanian grandparents (whom they can't talk to!) and want into the US/EU/anywhere. My advice is for you two posters to get together and commiserate. You might be ...

On a human level, I really feel for you. This is a bad situation, and it must be incredibly stressful. From a procedural standpoint, I just have one thing to add. Don't leave the country while they're processing your application. Leaving the country technically invalidates your application, and you'...

Yes, I agree with that statement from the other site, tobiashomer, but it's a matter of scope. If an ILR holder (old system) were to apply for naturalisation under the new rules, s/he would probably have to meet the new requirements with regards to volunteering or having a good criminal record. In t...

thirdwave, I don't believe that's true. Having read through the draft, it appears that the proposed changes might actually benefit some applicants as it does not require the applicant to have held ILR for a year before applying for citizenship. Therefore someone who has been in the country for 8 yea...

1963British, I believe we've been agreeing with each other all along. Old system: Limited leave --> ILR --> British citizenship New system: Temporary permission --> Probational citizenship --> permanent residence/UK citizenship I never meant to imply or suggest that ILR = probational citizenship. IL...

Thanks, 1963British, for your compliments regarding my post. I think I'm confused by your other statement. I wrote: However, I would expect that individuals who have been granted ILR before that phrase is abolished and replaced by "probational citizenship" will be allowed to retain it. By this I mea...

Amnesty / 10&14 yrs / When the draft immi bill takes eff

Just some small notes from having read the material. Please keep in mind that all of these published statements by the Home Office are drafts, and may change in measures both great and small before taking effect. Moreover, everything that I have written below is my own take on what I have read and s...

Results from the visitors consultation published

It seems as if the Government has dropped plans to introduce a cash bond for visitors: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7472835.stm And that the maximum stay time for a visitor remains at six months (it hasn't been lowered to three). But you can find the full results of the consultation here: ...

Just a small correction to Wanderer's posting. It takes NINE years of residence to qualify for citizenship in Denmark: http://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-us/citizenship/danish_nationality/conditions_to_be_satisfied.htm (See "Residence" about a 1/3 of the way down) To get a permanent residence permit in Den...

In all the time that I've lived in the UK (1998-2001 & 2003-now) and travelled through all of London's airports, my passport's never been checked leaving the country. This is leaving at all times of the day and from Stansted, City, Heathrow, Luton and Gatwick.

So I don't know what to add...

What's wrong with "republique"?

I'm just being curious (and probably a busy-body), but why is republique on "thin ice"? I haven't read every single one of his/her posts, but they haven't struck me as being too untoward.

Have I dropped the plot?

Fair enough. I do appreciate your getting back to me. I know that's the case with the US in many circumstances. Namely that an application is considered abandoned if the applicant leaves during processing. Whether that's the same with the UK, I don't know for sure. At this point I can only go on wha...

JAJ, is that true? The reason I ask is that like the original poster, I have two passports as well: Canada and US. My Canadian passport is now with the Home Office for postal processing for ILR on the basis on UK Ancestry. However I now need to go to Switzerland this Thursday for a same-day trip. Af...

According to your earlier posts, your spousal visa expired yesterday, the 13th of June. Does this mean that you're now overstaying? If you are, do be aware that there is a risk that the Home Office may refuse your application and you'll have to start from scratch. Also if you are now overstaying, th...

Possible HO announcements next week

Just looking at the parliamentary schedule for next week, I see that Jacqui Smith is to speak and answer questions on Monday afternoon in the Main Chamber. With that in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if she has something to say about the consultations completed in February/March for proposed changes ...

Just out of curiosity, why no other country (either Europe or non european countries) is imposing anything like what Americans are imposing on others? Super-easy peasy PEO appointment request

Hi there... I just wanted to share how easy it was for me to book my PEO appointment in Croydon in four weeks time. I was a bit cautious after reading how difficult it has been for other people. Upon ringing the number at 9:30 this morning, I waited all of three minutes before someone came to the ph...

But surley it would be ok if the part time course was 15 hours or more per week. Wouldnt that be full time as per immigration rules even though it might be recognised as part time to an educational institution. Accredited degree courses in the UK must meet for at least 15 hours a week to be conside...
