So I think the same sex marriage in UK is considered a civil partnership, but does anyone know if that is considere equal as "marriage" that is recognised by the US?

I'm a Hong Kong citizen, and hold a BNO passport. Is it legal for me to marry in UK or in a UK consulate overseas that allows it?
