Also, is it at all possible to apply for this first adult passport using a post office-certified copy of the foreign passport?

HMPO First adult passport, time to return foreign passport?

Hi, So my husband has now had his ceremony and has a certificate. His other citizenship is a EU one that allows dual citizenship. I take it that for a first adult passport HMPO requires you to send the foreign passport and there is not fast track or premium service. our issue is that we travel frequ...

Re: Spanish citizen applying for British, confusion with surname

I had exactly the same problem as you with the exception I was using my second surname in my UK life. What I did was 1-2 years before applying for naturalisation I starting changing everything to my two surnames (i.e. 2 surnames not a double-barrelled one). I did this with work, bank accounts, utili...

Re: Passport refused - uncancelled passport in maiden name

This seems quite a stupid position from the HMPO. I'm a dual Spanish/UK citizen, but I could also apply for an Israeli passport. Israelis can choose a hebrew name when they become citizens and so you would have a Spanish passport with one name, and an Israeli passport with a different name. What wou...

Application for first passport

So after my naturalisation ceremony last week I sent the paperwork for the passport application After I sent everything I noticed a small mistake. In the state of citizenship certificate I wrote the wrong date. Possibly a typo using the online form. Not sure how I managed to do that. In any case, I ...

Re: First Passport after naturalisation

It is my understanding that once you become British, you always have to use a british passport to enter the country. There is NO such requirement. You can enter the UK with your EU passport. Let me explain: let's say I apply for a UK passport the day after my ceremony. I will have to send my curren...

First Passport after naturalisation

Hi, My naturalisation application was successful and now have my ceremony booked for November. I have a question about the passport application. I'm a EU national and therefore have a passport and ID card. I travel frequently within the EU (Germany mostly) for family reason, almost every other weeke...

Re: HMPO sms - "Do not book travel until your passport is received"

but thing is, do I need to inform them that I'll be out of the country, in case they wanna book an interview to verify my documents at my place? This message I received may be related to the citizenship application, and not only to the passport, maybe? No you do not. You are only British once you a...

Re: Ceremony letter

it must be up to the council. I was checking the council of the city I used to live before and they have quite a nice range of online systems including booking ceremonies. my current council does nothing online... NOTHING. Probably that's the reason they can't arrange combined "approval and ceremony...

Do I have to definitely wait for the letter from the council?
I checked the Cambridgeshire council website and they do have a number for bookings...

I just want to get this done as soon as possible - I have no idea what the wait list for Cambs is like.

Return of documentation and passport

Hi, I applied (AN) online and sent the documents by courier (they arrived last Monday). When should I expect the Home Office to return my passport (and other documents) ? Looking at the timelines it does look like they are taking 6 weeks on average to make a decision but are passports returned only ...

Re: Referee declarations - date of signature

I did most of my online application in April and my referees signed back then.
What I asked them to do last week was to sign again with a text like "Signing again on XX/07/2018 due to delay in submitting application".
I hope it's ok - I thought it was better than sending them a 3 month old signature.

EEA permanent residency and 5 year qualifying period for AN

Hi quick question - I just panicked a little bit. I see a lot of people when reporting timelines for their AN applications they report: 5 years + 1 year PR if they are EU. I assume they mean, mostly, that they are using the last 5 years of their residency as qualifying period, and that the last 12 m...

Referee forms

Hi, I'm applying to naturationsalition through the EEA route. I have all paperwork ready. My referees signed the form back in April, but the application wasn't ready until now. Will this be a problem? SHould I seek new forms to be signed? Can they cross out the earlier signature and sign again with ...

Re: PR: Initial period as jobseeker

For as long as you can show any evidence of you trying to find a job or a place at the University I don't see why it should not count. However your attempts to look for work outside the Uk to find work inside the UK may be deemed irrelevant because at the time you were not residing in the UK when y...

PR: Initial period as jobseeker

Hi, I have an unusual question regarding qualifying periods for my PR certificate application. I entered the UK in 2011. For the first 12 months I was seeking for jobs. I hold a PhD in medical research - during those 12 months I had a few (6+) interviews but it was a slow process. I have proof of ap...

Re: EU/EEA naturalisation and name change

To be fair, things are never easy when you are depending on the laws of two different countries to both be in your favour. I could quite easily get both of my passports (Finnish and British) cancelled, change my name by deed poll, then reapply for both passports with my new name. It would certainly...

Re: Passport refused - uncancelled passport in maiden name

Would small changes in name apply to this rule? Once I obtain my naturalisation I would like to translate my name to English (Enrique => Henry) and fuse my two Spanish surnames into a double-barrelled hyphenated surname. So my Spanish Passport would show Enrique Lopez Lopez while I would like my Bri...
