Re: Can I apply for permanent residency solely for a child?

Hi Simon, Thanks for this. Sorry to bother you further but wondered if you have a link that mentions that children aren't subject to the one year wait. I've looked on gov.uk and it doesn't mention it on this link: https://www.gov.uk/settled-status-eu-citizens-families/after-youve-applied I'm wanting ...

Re: Can I apply for permanent residency solely for a child?

I think I know why they are suggesting PR over settled: Quote from a law firm's site: On the other hand, however, the new settled status appears to be less advantageous than the current Permanent Residence. Currently EEA nationals who have resided in the UK for longer than five years are able to ...

Re: Can I apply for permanent residency solely for a child?

Thanks, Simon. I find it staggering that the home office operator pushed us along the permanent residency route based on the argument we didn’t have to wait, whereas the settled status meant we had to wait. Is it a case of there being misinformation internally or just lack of training; the person k ...

Re: Can I apply for permanent residency solely for a child?

Hi Simon,

My child has lived here almost 12 years now (birthday coming up soon) arriving just weeks after being born.

And still lives here; about to start secondary school.

Hope this clarifies it further.

Re: 3 year marriage route or 5 year route for citizenship?

Hi Simon, Yes, agreed. We just thought there might have been pros and cons associated with either of the routes. I figured the 3 year marriage route would have meant less paperwork to provide from our side - 3 years vs 5 years worth. Anyway, it seems we would be fine with either, unless someone has ...

Can I apply for permanent residency solely for a child?

Hi all, After several chats with the Home Office, it was suggested the best route for our 11 years old child, who has lived in the UK a weeks after being born in Denmark, was to apply for permanent residency not EU settlement given we will apply for UK citizenship straight after this. However, my ...

3 year marriage route or 5 year route for citizenship?

Hi there, My husband is looking to apply for citizenship. He is an EU citizen and has held UK permanent residency since 2005. He has been married to me, a British citizen, since 2001. Should he apply for citizenship through me via the marriage route, or through the 5 year route? I assumed that the ...

Re: Not sure where we fit in the immigration process

Hi, thanks for your response. No - my husband is not a British Citizen. Yes - he has permanent residence status - granted on October 2005 - 3 years prior to our eldest's birth. So what you are saying is that because he has permanent residence status, he has passed this on by default to our child who ...

Not sure where we fit in the immigration process

Hi guys, I've spoken with HO several times, receiving conflicting advice, so I am hoping to find guidance here regarding my child's status and what next steps are. The detail: I have lived in UK since 2001. I applied for ILR in 2002 - and was granted it. (My husband is Danish). As part of that ...
