Naturalization references

I had my Sopera Soteria appointment today but the lady never took my signed referee declarations. She said your application is complete and dont need anything else.

On Gov.UK website it says it is mandatory to send the signed declarations.

What should I do?

My wife's current leave has expired on 03/05/2016 (we applied for ILR on 30/04/2016) so if i dont apply to switch for her at the same time will she not be classed as an overstayer because she dosent have a valid visa to stay?
