Submission of documents starts at 2 and the collection starts at around 3. I was there on Tuesday and I was out of the HCI before 3:30.

That's misleading. If you submit a deed poll with your passport application, you'll get your passport with the new name.

Did UK NARIC gave you C1 level assessment?
Yup. AFAIK, all the degrees that get 10 points on the UKBA points calculator are C1.

Re: OCI Collection Timings London

No change of time. This process has been there on the website for a while now. I was there a few weeks ago and a friend had come for collection. You need to go there in the morning and stand in a separate queue and submit the foreign Passport, the printout of the status report and the acknowledgement...

Re: NARIC certified my english level as C1 for Indian degree

I don't think you need to bother sending marksheets and a letter from university to UKNARIC if your degree is recognized by the UKBA points calculator. I just sent UK NARIC a copy of degree and they gave me ELA without asking for any other documents.

You're right, that's not even remotely helpful. Let's not get into the business of judging other people's choice without any details.

You don't need to call them up anymore in order to book an appointment. You can do it all online now - book, cancel or reschedule. And yes, you will have to enter the DS160 number there. You will need to make the payment online as well.

What they dont tell you is that if you do not give them exact 175GBP the fees they wont return the change. Luckily I met a bunny in the queue who was making a second trip who warned me before hand. And whilst in the queue there are people asking for two fives please etc. This was certainly not the ...

Yeah, they want copies. But the online deed poll that I had ordered said "Copies of this documents are not valid". So I just took an original, wrote "True Copy" on it and signed/dated it. That was accepted without any issues.

So do I take a blank deed poll or the one I used for British passport (it has been witnessed by a friend)? A blank one! Be sure to take a photo id as well (passport, license etc.) as the solicitor may ask for it to confirm your identity. It's also a good idea to get 2-3 deed polls signed by the sol...

Surrender certificate will have your old name too. You'll need to include the deed poll when applying for OCI.

Because I was still an Indian citizen before the naturalisation. So I wasn't sure if the deed poll would've been sufficient for a name change or not. The whole process seemed much simpler after becoming British.

I recently changed my name via a deed poll. But I did it after receiving my naturalisation certificate and before applying for the British passport. I had no issues with the passport or OCI.

Deed poll signed by an oath commissioner is sufficient for the OCI btw. I had done it recently and there were no issues with the submission.

You can just get an official looking deed poll from 100s of services online (I had used http://www.thelegaldeedpollservice.org.uk) and get it signed by any oath commissioner (they shouldn't charge more than £7 for this).
