E-visa for India…no surrender certificate yet

After having aquired, British citizenship and received British passport, Is it mandatory to surrender the Indian passport first for the e-visa.
Due to urgency need to travel and planning to apply Indian eVisa but do not have the surrender certificate.

Anyone in this situation can please help?

A quick question, can the document (eg the employer letter) be dated after the application submission but before biometric date?

What other evidence is acceptable in lieu of stamping other than the employer letter?

Cannot change the answer now that the application has been submitted but will sign the consent forms part 1 and part 2.
Will a clarification letter help. I am just concerned?
