oh one other thing as well which was interesting... in that they effectively "backdated" my ILR to 23/03/10 - 4 years to the day since my original HSMP was granted. Its more the not having my passport at the moment which bothers me. I assume if I went the normal postal route I have to send off my passport for possibly up to 2 months. I've got several business trips coming up and I need my passport for that.

I don't believe so unfortunately, no. I was in the same situation - switched from my 2 year working holidaymaker into hsmp, but i have had to do the full 4 years on hsmp to qualify for ILR. as i understand it it is because working holidaymaker is not considered to be a route to settlement.

as i suspected. but i had to ask.

so its 2.5 years till i can apply for ILR, and god-only-knows what other changes the govmt will make to the immigration rules in that time :?
