Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Help! Adoption issues Hey all! Longtime lurker. Just heard back from FBR. Unfortunately it's not good news. Submitted my application — 19th October 2020 Docs received — 12th December 2020 I applied on the basis of both paternal grandparents who were born in Ireland. Unfortunately both have document...

Re: Irish Citizenship through Foreign Birth registered parent

Hi, no dice sadly as your mother would have needed to register on the FBR prior to your birth. There’s another route open to GGC through “associations” with Ireland but this seems opaque and not very realistic. Naturalisation is the other route though this has to be earned over 5 years rather than i...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Thanks for the insight! I collected all these docs in advance (preadoption birth cert, court order, adoption papers, current birth cert etc) but took me over a year so they should have more than all the evidence they need. Luckily, it's my dad's mother who is the Irish citizen and her name was on th...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I have a few questions if there is anyone who can help: 1) Has anyone gone through the FBR process before who had a similar situation re. adoption? Wondering if there was any difference or a longer wait time because of it. Luckily we were able to get a certified copy of my grandmother's Irish passp...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration and Adoptions

Hi all, Just a heads up for anyone applying with adoption in the family history. I posted back in October as my December 2018 application was being dealt with. In dealing with it, issues arose with my father's birth certificates. He was born in the UK and registered under my Irish grandmother's mai...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

My grandmother was born in Cork, Ire and my grandfather in Aberdeen. I am hoping for Scottish independence, I would love to have a Scottish passport too!! I hear there might be another referendum because of Brexit and most of the Scottish voted to stay in the EU, your thoughts? I don't think this i...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

However, having read about some of the documentation some people have been asked to submit, I wanted to ask your opinion. My father was widowed when my mother died, then remarried and divorced before his death. Even though this second marriage is completely irrelevant to my application will I have ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Thanks I have now emailed that address as well. I won't hold my breath but it does seem a very long time Hi Jacqui, I had to supply additional information and my application took exactly 1 year and 2 weeks, and this was in 2017 to 2018 when processing times were somewhat quicker all round. Stick wi...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Question for anyone that applied via London and received their certificate in the last 6 months: was your certificate and returned certificates sent back to you An Post recorded delivery? Or just standard postage? Mine was sent to me via regular post, it wasn't recorded delivery (although the docum...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Now I need to figure out if my grandparents ever renounced their Irish citizenship! My granddad was in the British Armed Forces for his entire career so its possible he did. My Irish grandfather was also in the British Army and did not renounce his Irish citizenship. I'm now a happy owner of an FBR...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration via Great-Grandparents

Hi there From what you've described, eligibility for Irish citizenship stops at your father, as he has grandparents who were born in Ireland. The only way you would have been eligible is if your father had already claimed Irish citizenship through FBR before you were born. There are only special cir...

Re: Irish mother but adopted at birth.

I am adding my experience in case it is of any help (I have posted previously). I successfully received my FBR in July this year after much to-ing and fro-ing with various agencies. It can and does work to persevere, so good luck with your application! My mother was born in England, and was subseque...

Re: FBR docs required / Immig Agents

It should be very straightforward to obtain all the certificates from the links above, provided you know the relevant details, date of birth, names etc. I had to get certificates from the England and NI registers for my FBR application from the UK, all ordered easily online and they came through in ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Hi After receiving your FBR Certificate does anyone know whether you need to supply your current country’s passport when applying for the Irish passport? I’m a little concerned I’d have to do this given I travel abroad fairly often for personal and work so would need my current passport to do so Th...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Hi folks I've posted before on this thread and others about my experiences, and today, having gone through the FBR a while ago, I have received my Irish passport. The turnaround was unbelievably quick: having submitted my passport form from the UK I received my passport back less than 5 weeks later....

Re: Foreign Birth Registration - change of address

Hi Adrian I received my FBR certificate and all my original documentation in the post today! I didn't get any further updates or notifications about when I could expect the delivery, other than the initial email I had from the DFA. That email stated 2-3 weeks, but it only took 10 days. The certifica...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration - change of address

No worries!

I’m currently waiting for my citizenship certificate and identity docs, should be up to another couple of weeks. But yes the approval email says that everything will be posted out together, by registered mail.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration - change of address

Hi Adrian I think it would be worth contacting them, I'm sure this happens all the time that people move between the point of application and the point of receiving citizenship, even to other countries. In my experience they are very helpful with queries. Having said that they should notify you by e...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Posting my experience of the FBR in case it helps others in similar circumstances. My mother was born to an Irish father, but was then adopted by her maternal (English) grandparents. I applied through London (UK citizen and resident) on 3 July 2017 and received confirmation via email of Irish citize...
