With the people in Ireland its like this, the older are very friendly, warm and nice people while the younger are all spoiled brads with no respect for any living person or property. @ TS, I wouldn't call people 'simple' because that can mean retarded in some countries. I think you mean 'not complic...

Hello Aureliebg! There are a lot of posting that address this question, so you can read through them on this forum. I am an American who went through the process, with my Dutch husband. We were married before coming to Ireland which is a big plus! We also have advanced degrees, so our situation is s...

Speaking of education, my letter from the college did mention that I had a Master of Science in epidemiology...a field somewhat rare in Ireland. That may have been a factor. However, do I think that being American helped me get a Stamp 4...I am pretty sure it did. But that doesn't mean other people ...

Ok, so it's taken me a few days, but I am finally posting my story. I want to do this since the difference between total rejection versus Stamp 4 seems totally arbitrary. So, WoodenShoe and I were married in December 2006 in America. I moved to Ireland in January 2007, so we weren't even married a f...

HURRAH! I finally received my letter from DOJ today!!! I wasn't granted residence, but I did get a Stamp 4, which permits me to reside and work in Ireland. For me, that's better than nothing, at least for my situation! I don't have the time right now, but I am going to write out everything I did. Ma...

Santiago, maybe you won't be denied...maybe you will get a Stamp 4. If you can work with a Stamp 4, it's really not so bad and it will buy you more time. Still, if you didn't do so already, you should document a complaint with Solvit...the Irish branch, but also the branch from your husband's home. ...

Ok, I just called DOJ this morning, and the rep told me that my decision should be made this week (I applied Jan. 2007). She said I should receive my letter by the end of the week or the beginning of next week at the latest. What do you think the odds are that this will actually happen??? I am 99.99...

It's nice that they have created a FAQ, but there is no new information on it. First you had to ask them to send back your documents, now they do it automatically. The email address you can now get in contact with is also very nice. Although we are already over the 6 month limit, we haven't heard an...

The only thing the post on entemp means is that they are currently postponing taking a decision on spousal work permits. Because they would like to change something to the reviewing process, hopefully speeding it up. If a (fairly large) company likes to hire you after interviewing, they would not gi...

Platinum, I applied in January 2007 too....so maybe I will be getting a response soon. Do you think that contacting Solvit encouraged DOJ to speed up the process? I filed an electronic complaint with the Irish Solvit; though, I haven't called them. Also, I know that the Dutch Solvit took my immigrat...

You do need to send in your original passport. But call DOJ to get it back, and they will mail it to you. You do not have to wait until they make a decision before you get your passport back. I had no troubles and got mine back very quickly, but other people were not so lucky and had to call DOJ rep...

I didn't want to stereotype any country, so that's why I took a country that doesn't exist anymore: USSR, a country that is in civilwar: Afghanistan, and a country with a reputation of being a bureaucracy (although rapidly changing) China. I had to compare it with something. But my sincerest apologi...

It is just a load of bu......reaucracy. You expect this to happen in the USSR or China, or on the border of Afghanistan. It won't be a problem having your wife with you for the first 10 months, pending the application she can stay in Ireland and the application takes ~10 months at least, although she cannot move to the USA and back without you and a lot of hassle. (one of) the idea(s) about going to Ireland first was to go more easily to the Netherlands. All the institutions we talked with made it seem very easy. But that came back and slapped us in the face. The reason why they haven't told anybody, is because they don't want anybody to know. I believe because it is against EU guidelines. Most of us heard the same story from our embassies, it was supposed to be as easy as eating cheesecake. We even called the Irish Govt up until Jan of 07, and they stil...
